Gold, silver and bronze for Darts Farm Master Butchers
Farmers, butchers and industry experts were gathered at the biggest and most renowned primestock show in the West Country on Monday, the South West Winter Fair in Sedgemoor, judging and auctioning the finest livestock the area has to offer.
Master Butcher, Philip David, from Darts Farm in Topsham, won gold, silver and bronze for the three turkeys he entered. Philip said:
“I am over the moon to win in each category entered and to receive recognition for selling the best turkeys in the West Country. The Dart family and my brother Alastair and I are passionate about sourcing the finest quality produce for our customers”.
Credit also has to be given to Nigel and Sandra Broom, based just outside Colyton, who have been rearing these bronze and white, free-range turkeys, and supplying Philip and Alastair for more than 25 years. A member of the Traditional Farmfresh Turkey Association, Sandra and Nigel’s turkeys are slowly reared, dry hung and hand-finished ensuring the perfect bird for your Christmas table.
Being recognised for his knowledge and years of experience hand-picking the finest livestock to sell in his shops, Philip was also asked to judge the unhaltered cattle competition. The Supreme Champion happened to come from one of the Master Butcher’s very own beef famers, David and Tom Lockwood. Philip decided to purchase this supreme champion and it will be on sale at Darts Farm for Christmas.
